On the Mysteries is a new podcast and blog exploring a fascinating but often-overlooked period of ancient Egypt.

The journalistic project traces the history of Egypt after the age of the native pharaohs–the Ptolemaic and Roman eras–through the distinct lens of Egypt's philosophical and literary tradition.

  • Through discussions with top scholars and highlighting the latest research, On the Mysteries aims to help illuminate this long-misunderstood period in Egypt's history.
  • Special emphasis will be placed on exploring the stories of cross-cultural interaction in Greco-Roman Egypt and their role in the emergence of intellectual achievements such as Hermetic philosophy, theurgy, and astrology.
  • On the Mysteries will also periodically seek to offer original perspectives on some of the lingering questions surrounding Greco-Roman Egypt and its many lasting legacies.

The project of a longtime, award-winning journalist, On the Mysteries is currently in development and is planned for launch this fall.
